Other critics took aim at Corrin’s portrayal. “Why does every still of Corrin’s Elizabeth Bennet make her look sad and brooding? Her expression appears clouded with misery. That’s not Lizzy in the novel at all (except for during the Lydia incident),” a third weighed in.
“I just refuse to believe it’s gonna be better than the 1995 version,” a fourth added, while a fifth similarly apprehensive user penned: “The problem with these remakes is that the BBC series was perfect.”
However, despite the comparisons with yesteryear, some fans argued Mr Lowden and Corrin’s adaptation should be given a chance.
“Jack Lowden can sit on that pedestal alongside Matthew Macfadyen. It’s a good place to be. He looks great as Darcy,” one fan argued, while a second echoed: “I love this story by Austen and I don’t mind a remake of it over and over again. Of course I hope it’s good. From the looks of it, Jack is charming. Emma is good and Dolly is an amazing writer so I’m optimistic.”
