King Charles paid a visit to The Bahamas Boxing Academy, situated within the Queen Elizabeth Sporting Complex, where Bahamian Prime Minister Philip Davis was on hand to welcome him.
The Prime Minister of the country has been a vocal supporter of the academy and has spoken of boxing being firmly embedded in the “Bahamian DNA”.
Upon arriving at the main training area, the King found a youth boxing session already in progress.
He spoke with aspiring young athletes and their coaches alongside the boxing bags.
His Majesty then watched a sparring demonstration before heading to the outdoor boxing area, where he met further young fighters and members of local boxing clubs.
A particularly memorable moment came when the King was presented with a T-shirt featuring a cartoon of himself kitted out in boxing shorts and gloves, topped with a crown.
The gift left Charles in fits of laughter.
He encountered Jermaine Gibson, president and chief executive of the All-Out Boxing Club, and his son at the academy, both sporting the humorous T-shirts bearing the royal boxing image.
The light-hearted exchange was one of several personal interactions during the visit to the centre, which provides coaching and mentoring to young Bahamians through sport.
“Ha!” said the King, pointing and laughing at the shirts.
“We made one for you, I had it made last night,” Mr Gibson told him.
Accepting the gift, Charles, still laughing, replied: “How generous.”
Afterwards Mr Gibson, whose club is based on the neighbouring island of Grand Bahama, said: “He loved it, he loved it.
“He said it was really good and we gave him one of his own.”
The academy opened its doors in April 2026 with a mission centred on offering young Bahamians pathways through sport, education and mentoring.
LATEST ROYAL DEVELOPMENTS:
During his time in the outdoor area, the King was introduced to Steve Larrimore, the Bahamas Boxing Champion who represented his country at the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
Mr Larrimore also claimed bronze medals at both the Commonwealth Games and the Central American and Caribbean Games in 1982.
Before taking his leave, His Majesty unveiled a commemorative plaque to mark the occasion of his visit to the academy.
