Vauxhall has launched a brand new logo, with the refreshed Griffin emblem designed to provide a more “streamlined and contemporary look”.

The iconic British brand has redesigned its Griffin logo for the first time since 2019, as the emblem continues to evolve after more than 100 years.

Vauxhall explained that the upgraded Griffin marked a new chapter in the brand’s history and visual identity.

The Griffin now has a more angular design, with Vauxhall deciding to remove the flag for the first time in its history.

Vauxhall added that the new Griffin “previewed an evolution of the brand’s Bold and Pure design language”, as it transitions to an electric future.

The logo works alongside the distinctive Vauxhall Vizor grille, which has been seen on popular models since 2021.

The illumination of the Griffin was added to the new Vauxhall Astra in 2026, and will continue to appear on future models.

Vauxhall will debut the new Griffin alongside its new STX concept at the prestigious Paris Motor Show next month.

The STX, which stands for Sports Tourer eXperimental, will showcase design elements that will appear on future models from the British brand.

Drivers looking to get their hands on a Vauxhall with the new Griffin will be able to buy the next production model being revealed next month.

Mark Adams, Vauxhall Design Vice-President, said: “The Griffin emblem is instantly recognisable, with Vauxhalls seen on almost every street in Britain.

“Having adorned our vehicles in different forms for more than 120 years, we wanted to retain its essential elements while streamlining it for the next generation of electrified vehicles.

The Griffin has had 12 major changes since it was first introduced in 1915

“As the Griffin is now illuminated on the front of our latest models, this simpler design also makes it clearer and easier to identify.”

Mr Adams described the new look as “sharper” and “cleaner” as Vauxhall moves forward with its Bold and Pure design language.

The origins of the Vauxhall Griffin trace back more than 700 years, when it was featured on the coat of arms of Sir Falkes de Bréauté, an Anglo-Norman mercenary and lieutenant of King John.

He was eventually granted the Manor of Luton, where Vauxhall had one of its main manufacturing bases until a few years ago.

Sir Falkes de Bréauté eventually married Margaret de Redvers, who had property on the South bank of the Thames, which later became known as Vauxhall.

Alexander Wilson, the founder of Vauxhall Ironworks, decided to use the Griffin emblem for his new company in 1857.

In the 1910s, apprentice Harry Varley won a competition to design a new Vauxhall badge, which drew inspiration from the Griffin emblem.
