A body found by road workers close to a motorway bridge has been identified as a man aged between 20 and 28 years, say police.

The discovery of the body was made close to a bridge between junctions 3 and 4 of the M67 on Tameside at about 23:00 BST on Monday 3 August, Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said.

The force said a post-mortem examination had taken place, identifying the body as a man of medium build, between 5ft 5″ (1.65m) and 5’9″. His ethnicity is not known at this stage.

GMP said it was continuing to work with specialist teams to understand the full circumstances of his death, including how he died, and to locate his next-of-kin to establish an identity.

The discovery of the body resulted in the closure in both directions between the junctions on Monday.
