Waitrose shoppers have been warned of a potentially dangerous labelling error on the supermarket’s tuna pâté.
The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has urged shoppers not to consume the food, as it is labelled with a Use-By date two months after it expires.
Waitrose Tuna Pâté
Pack size: 115g
Use by: December 17, 2026
The Use-By date reads December 17 when it should be October 17, 2026, making the product unsafe to consume.
The FSA states: “If there is a problem with a food product that means it should not be sold, then it might be ‘withdrawn’ (taken off the shelves) or ‘recalled’ (when customers are asked to return the product).
“Waitrose is recalling the above product. Point-of-sale notices will be displayed in all retail stores that are selling this product.
“These notices explain to customers why the product is being recalled and tell them what to do if they have bought the product.”
Waitrose shared further advice for customers, advising “do not consume [the item], package it up and return to your local Waitrose & Partners branch for a refund”.
Customers can also contact Waitrose Customer Care on 0800 188 884, Option 4, for further assistance. The supermarket added: “We apologise that it has been necessary to recall this product, and for the inconvenience caused.”
Earlier this week, Britons were urged not to eat certain eggs linked to a salmonella outbreak across the UK.
Eggs with the stamp code 3UA1012066 are affected. While major supermarket chains do not stock the products, it is thought they may have reached smaller independent shops and convenience stores.
The affected batches were imported from Ukrainian producer Yasensvit Ltd, based in Kyiv, and mainly entered the UK market through wholesalers supplying the catering sector and food manufacturers.
The FSA stated: “Shell eggs originating from Yasensvit Ltd, Ukraine, stamped with the code 3UA1012066 should be removed from sale and not consumed because Salmonella was found in the product Food businesses and consumers should be aware that shell eggs originating from Ukraine stamped with the code 3UA1012066 on the egg may be unsafe to eat because Salmonella has been found in some of the eggs supplied by this establishment.
“It is possible other eggs from this establishment with egg stamp code 3UA1012066 may also be affected. All eggs with the code 3UA1012066 should be withdrawn from the market and recalled from consumers. These eggs should not be consumed.”
