Professional dancer Karen Hauer became visibly emotional whilst remembering her former celebrity partner Dave Myers during a segment on Thursday evening’s It Takes Two.

The veteran performer, who holds the distinction of being the programme’s longest-serving professional, struggled to maintain her composure whilst discussing the late television chef in a pre-recorded segment.

During the broadcast, Ms Hauer reflected on various partnerships throughout her tenure on the BBC programme, mentioning collaborations with Jamie Laing and Charles Venn.

However, when the conversation turned to Myers, emotions overwhelmed the dancer as she shared cherished memories from their time together.

The touching tribute highlighted the profound impact Mr Myers had on Ms Hauer during her early years on the programme, with tears flowing as she recalled their special bond.

Mr Myers, who gained fame as one half of the Hairy Bikers duo, passed away in February 2024 aged 66, having disclosed his cancer battle two years prior.

The television personality had partnered with Ms Hauer during her second series on the programme, a period when she was still finding her feet as a performer.

“Dave Myers was the first celebrity that I danced with that showed me how to have fun,” the dancer revealed during the emotional segment.

She explained that at that stage in her career, she remained uncertain about her identity on the programme and how she wished to present herself to audiences.

Their partnership proved transformative for the professional dancer, who credits Mr Myers with helping her discover her authentic performing style.

Amongst her most treasured memories, Ms Hauer spoke of a particularly memorable Salsa routine where she manoeuvred the chef in a trolley whilst sporting an elaborate fruit-adorned headpiece.

“I had a head full of fruit, and he had maracas and ruffles,” she recounted through tears.

The joyful performance epitomised their partnership’s spirit, with both dancers sharing infectious laughter throughout.

“We were laughing with each other, and we wanted everyone to join us in that,” Ms Hauer explained.

Mr Myers’ influence extended beyond choreography, fundamentally altering Ms Hauer’s approach to performing.

“He unlocked that key for me, and went, ‘This is how you have fun, Karen,'” she revealed.

The chef’s guidance helped her embrace self-deprecation and genuine enjoyment, lessons she continues to apply in her performances today.

The professional dancer emphasised the enduring influence Myers had on her career, noting how his approach to performance continues to shape her work.

“He showed me how to make fun of myself, and since then, I’ve definitely taken that on board,” she stated.

Ms Hauer’s voice cracked as she concluded her tribute, saying simply: “He took care of me, and I just miss him.”

When news of Myers’ death emerged last year, Ms Hauer was amongst the first to honour his memory on social media. Her Instagram post read: “Dave, You taught me how to have fun and to take on the day with a big smile. Rest well my dear friend. I’m going to miss you so much.”
