Former BBC Radio One DJ Tim Westwood, who is accused of rape and sexual assault, has been granted conditional bail at Westminster Magistrates’ Court.

The 68-year-old is set to next appear at Southwark Crown Court on December 8.

Mr Westwood appeared at Westminster Magistrates Court on Monday morning facing 15 sexual offence charges relating to seven women.

He faces four rape charges, nine indecent assault charges and two sexual assault charges.

The alleged offences span 33 years from 1983 to 2016, with the youngest alleged victims being 17 years old at the time of the incidents.

The charges follow a Metropolitan Police investigation into allegations against the veteran hip hop DJ.

Mr Westwood, who resides in Westminster, arrived at court earlier today for his first appearance since being charged.

The earliest allegation dates to 1983, when Mr Westwood allegedly indecently assaulted a 17-year-old in Fulham. Three years later, he is accused of indecently assaulting a woman in her twenties in Vauxhall.

Between 1995 and 1996, Mr Westwood allegedly raped and indecently assaulted a woman who was 17 or 18 years old in London.

Similar allegations involve another woman of the same age range between 2000 and 2001.

In 2010, Mr Westwood is accused of raping a woman in her twenties in London and sexually assaulting another woman of similar age in Stroud, Gloucestershire.

The most recent allegation involves the sexual assault of a woman in her twenties in Finchley in 2016.

Detective Superintendent Andy Furphy emphasised the bravery required for victims to report such allegations. “It takes courage to come forward and report allegations of this nature,” he stated.

He confirmed that support continues to be provided to the women who have placed their trust in the police.

The investigation remains active, with detectives urging anyone affected by the case or possessing relevant information to contact them.

“Our investigation remains open and we’d encourage anyone who has been impacted by this case, or anyone with information, to come forward and speak with us,” Mr Furphy added.

The BBC Board has issued an apology after an internal review concluded that the corporation failed to respond appropriately to concerns about the DJ’s conduct.

Mr Westwood has consistently maintained his innocence, stating he “strongly denies all allegations of inappropriate behaviour”.

The broadcaster departed Radio 1 and Radio 1Xtra in 2013 following nearly two decades with the BBC. He subsequently hosted a programme on Capital Xtra until stepping down in April 2022 amid the emerging allegations.

Beyond radio, Mr Westwood presented the British version of MTV’s Pimp My Ride, which broadcast for three series between 2005 and 2007.
