Queen Camilla has taken her senior position on the central Remembrance Sunday balcony beside Princess Kate.

Her Majesty has a range of military connections and affiliations, including Colonel-in-Chief of The Royal Lancers.

She stood alongside Princess Kate from the Centre Balcony of the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO).

The balcony overlooks the Cenotaph, where King Charles, Prince William and Prince Edward led the nation’s tributes to those who have lost their lives in conflict.

Camilla’s wreath was laid by Major Ollie Plunkett, which closely resembled those produced for the late Queen Elizabeth, The Queen Mother.

It consists of 95 closed-style poppy petals made from bonded fabric, mounted on a series of black leaves.

The brown, red and yellow ribbons were used to symbolise the Queen’s racing silk.

Camilla is the daughter of a member of the Armed Forces and has always felt a bond with military families.

The 78-year-old’s other military appointments include Colonel-in-Chief of The Rifles, Commodore-in-Chief of the Royal Naval Medical Services and the Naval Chaplaincy Service.

She is also the Lady Sponsor of HMS Astute and HMS Prince of Wales, and Honorary Air Commodore of
both RAF Leeming and RAF Halton.

Internationally, Camilla serves as Colonel-in-Chief of Queen’s Own Rifles of Canada and the Royal Australian Corps of Military Police.

Earlier this week, the Queen paid tribute to the nation’s war dead in a touching ceremony at Westminster Abbey’s Field of Remembrance.

The Queen was met by the Dean of Westminster, the Very Rev Dr David Hoyle, before she laid a cross of remembrance in memory of the armed services who lost their lives.

The balcony overlooks the Cenotaph, where King Charles, Prince William and Prince Edward led the nation’s tributes to those who have lost their lives in conflict.

She placed a small wooden cross with a red poppy into a larger cross made from the flower, followed by the sound of the Last Post.

Camilla then spoke to attendees, volunteers and saw around 40,000 tributes which were laid out in 229 plots in the grounds of Westminster Abbey.

Some of the crosses featured personal messages, including: “Love mum and dad.”

Princess Kate’s participation today followed her appearance at the Royal Albert Hall on Saturday evening, where she attended the Festival of Remembrance with Prince George.

The 12-year-old joined his mother for the commemorative event, marking the first time he has been present at a major remembrance ceremony.

Prince William did not attend the festival this year as he was returning from official engagements in Brazil.
