Prince Harry is hoping King Charles will extend an invitation for him to bring Meghan Markle and their two children to Sandringham this summer, potentially reuniting the monarch with his grandchildren for the first time in over four years, a friend has claimed.

Prince Archie, six, and Princess Lilibet, four, last visited Britain during the late Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations in June 2022.

The Duchess of Sussex has not returned since attending Queen Elizabeth’s funeral that September.

Those in Harry’s circle say he would welcome the chance to visit the King’s Norfolk estate, where the Prince and Princess of Wales also maintain their country residence, Anmer Hall.

Security remains the critical factor preventing the family reunion, with the 41-year-old duke maintaining he cannot safely bring his wife and children to Britain without armed police protection.

The duke lost his publicly funded police protection after stepping down from royal duties and relocating to America in 2020.

Harry is currently awaiting a decision from the Royal and VIP Executive Committee, known as Ravec, on whether to reinstate his security arrangements following a request for a full risk assessment.

A friend of the duke explained the situation: “If he was invited by the King, he would get a package of security that automatically kicks in. He’d like an invite to Sandringham. Would he go? It would depend who was there. If the King was to say, ‘Come up and spend some time with the family’, he’d love that.”

The same source added: “There is not a world in which he brings the kids back unless there is an enhanced security package around them.”

Harry’s relationship with his father remains strained, with the pair having met just twice over the past two years.

Their most recent encounter took place on September 10 last year, a brief 50-minute tea at Clarence House during one of the duke’s UK visits for charity work. That meeting came after a gap of 19 months.

The 77-year-old King continues to receive treatment for cancer.

Harry’s relationship with his brother has deteriorated further still.

The duke remains completely estranged from the Prince of Wales, with the siblings having neither spoken nor seen each other since Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral.

Harry is scheduled to return to Britain for approximately a week in July, attending events marking one year until the Invictus Games take place in Birmingham and supporting the WellChild charity, of which he is patron.

The King typically spends time at Sandringham during July before his traditional summer break at Balmoral from August to September.

A source close to the duke previously told the Times: “He’s not given up hope on bringing his family back to the UK.

“He wants to be able to show his children where he grew up. He wants them to know their family here.”

However, those close to the King have indicated Charles will not intervene in the security process, viewing such involvement as constitutionally inappropriate.

GB News has approached Prince Harry’s representative for comment.
