While more than 210,000 small boat migrants have crossed the Channel since 2018, more than 1.3 million have arrived in Europe via the Mediterranean.
Mr Farage warned Mr Burnham’s plan to restore freedom of movement would give around 750,000 migrants from so-called “small boat countries” the ability to move to the UK.
“Burnham is wrong, he is being misleading, he is being dishonest,” Mr Farage added.
“And remember, this is a man who five months ago was elected for Makerfield, telling the Leave-voting seat he would not reopen these debates.
“And this is a Government elected with a massive majority two and a half years ago, who said very clearly we would not re-enter the single market, the customs union or contemplate the free movement of people.
“This is a complete breach of the promises made by Burnham, made by this Government in his last manifesto, and it is a betrayal of what people voted for in 2016.”
