In her latest story, Gaye Roark shares the mischievous adventures of Josh and the scarecrow that comes to life.

Milton Keynes, UK. – Children’s literature gains a new addition this December with the upcoming release of Josh, and Edgar Blenkinsop, a humorous story written by Gaye Roark.

Josh and Edgar Blenkinsop tells the story of nine-year-old Josh and his unusual companion, Edgar Blenkinsop, a comical and often grumpy scarecrow who comes to life when no one else is watching.

Their friendship leads to a series of playful misadventures, from mischievous pranks on Josh’s older sisters to secret missions only known to his dog, Sally, and Edgar.

Despite his efforts to be well-behaved, Edgar constantly finds himself in humorous trouble, while Josh’s imaginative exploits reveal a child navigating both fun and responsibility.

The book aims to capture the joy and laughter of childhood while subtly addressing themes of friendship, creativity, and resilience.

Gaye Roark’s firsthand experience of serious illness shapes the story’s focus on emotional well-being and the necessity of managing stress, especially for children navigating a fast-paced, technology-driven world.

“In our ever-changing world stress levels seem to be higher than ever and my sympathies particularly lie with children. It isn’t easy being a child in these days of change. It’s a curious fact that an age of technological progress seems to have hijacked the minds of our children where phones, tablets or computers claim far too much of their attention.

“However, through life experience, I have discovered that humour is an antidote to stress. Hence, I have written books that seek to make children laugh, encourage them away from their phones for a while, and feel the benefits and joy of simply reading.” said Gaye.

Gaye who trained and worked as a nurse later in life, specialising in radiology and coronary care, has extensive experience helping patients cope with serious illness through relaxation therapy and stress management.

She has also contributed widely to health publications, highlighting the psychological benefits of humour and relaxation.

Josh, and Edgar Blenkinsop is targeted at children aged 7-12 and is designed to entertain while encouraging young readers to engage with imaginative stories and explore life lessons in a lighthearted way.

The book will be available from 19th December 2025 in paperback, hardcover, and Kindle formats.

The release is published by UK-based Maple Publishers, a company known for supporting imaginative and engaging works in literature, with book cover design, illustrations, and book layout by White Magic Studios.
