Lorraine Kelly has responded to Davina McCall’s revelation that she has breast cancer, after the presenter shared the news in an emotional video posted to Instagram on Saturday.

“I’m talking about this because I believe it will help someone. This is what I always do,” the Big Brother presenter told her followers.

Ms McCall explained she first noticed a lump a few weeks ago, which “came and went”, but decided to get it checked after seeing posters urging women to “check your breasts” while filming ITV’s The Masked Singer and Lorraine.

“I just wanted to tell you that I have had breast cancer. I found a lump a few weeks ago, and it came and went, but then I was working on the Masked Singer and the TV show Lorraine Kelly had put signs on the back of all the doors saying check your breasts.

“And every time I went for a wee I did that, and it was still there.

“Then one morning, I saw it in the mirror, and I thought, I’m going to get that looked at,” the TV star explained.

She added: “So I had a biopsy. I found out it was indeed breast cancer, and I had it taken out in a lumpectomy nearly three weeks ago. They take out a little bit extra and they check the margins, and the margins are clear.

“All I’m going to do now is have five days of radiotherapy in January as kind of an insurance policy, and then I am on my journey to try it and stop it ever coming back.”

Ms McCall said she initially felt a lot of “anger” at the news, but now feels more positive.

Her message to her viewers was: “Know your boobs. Notice any changes. Don’t procrastinate. Get your free checkups. And never ignore a niggle.”

Support quickly poured in across social media, including from many high-profile TV names.

Television presenter Holly Willoughby commented: “I just want to come and give you biggest hug, the kinda hug you give all of us…you’ve bought have been through it…love you Davina!”

British actress and comedian Dawn French added: “Blimey Davina! What a warrior you are. Must’ve been stressful. You are a phenomenal woman.”

Strictly Come Dancing judge Craig Revel Horwood added to the discourse, saying: “So glad you checked and fingers crossed this encourages others check themselves.”

Katie Piper, who has a history of life-changing injuries from a 2008 acid attack, which has required extensive reconstructive surgery and treatment, also sent her love to the presenter, penning: “Love you so much and sending buckets of light, healing and strength.”

Ms Kelly, who Ms McCall credited for the cancerous discovery, said: “I’m so glad Davina saw our Change+Check sticker and the cancer was caught early.

“That’s the whole point of the campaign to raise awareness and save lives.

“I’m sending Davina all my love.”

Fans also shared their heartbreak at the news.

“I wish the universe would give Davina a break ffs,” one wrote, while another said “Davina Mccall having both a brain tumour & breast cancer within a year of each other is absolutely horrendous tbh.” (sic)

Ms McCall’s breast cancer diagnosis comes nearly a year after she underwent surgery to remove a benign brain tumour, a colloid cyst she previously said was “very rare.”

She said in a video posted in November last year that the chances of having it were “three in a million” and that she had discovered it several months previously after a company offered her a health scan in return for giving a menopause talk.
