TV presenter Kirstie Allsopp has been rather embarrassingly corrected by a number of disgruntled social media users thanks to a claim she made regarding the BBC.

On Sunday night, the Channel 4 presenter took to the social media site X to defend the corporation after two of its leadership team resigned amid claims of bias following the editing of a Panorama documentary about Donald Trump.

Mr Davie admitted “some mistakes” had been made and that he had to take “ultimate responsibility.” Ms Turness similarly claimed that “the buck stopped” with her in regard to the scandal.

Politicians from across all of the major parties have had their say on the resignations, with the likes of Labour’s Lisa Nandy and Liberal Democrat leader Ed Davey praising Mr Davie for his work.

However, elsewhere, Reform UK’s Zia Yusuf and Nigel Farage have both called for major changes at the corporation, while the Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch similarly urged reform at the institution.

Several celebrities, such as Emily Maitlis and Graham Linehan, have also shared their thoughts, although none garnered quite the reception like Ms Allsopp’s bizarre take.

Ms Allsopp began her string of posts on Sunday evening by defending the BBC. “I love the fact that people are debating that the BBC is both too left-wing and too right-wing,” she said.

“I listen to @BBCRadio4 every day of the week & I constantly shout at the radio (actually my phone) and tweet criticism, but I’d be lost without it, we all would.”

But she wasn’t done there. Ms Allsopp followed her X post with another in which she claimed the entire nation wouldn’t have been able to watch today’s Remembrance service from The Cenotaph if it weren’t for the BBC.

“Without the BBC, today’s ceremony from The Cenotaph would not have been televised,” she claimed to her 431.1k followers.

Before long, the Location, Location, Location host was inundated with replies from perturbed social media users, many of whom pointed out that they actually happened to find a suitable alternative to watch the service on Remembrance Sunday.

“I literally watched it on GB News – I suspect it was also on Sky News,” one X user pointed out, to which a second echoed: “It was on GB news Kirstie. I watched it today.” (sic)

A third weighed in: “@GBNEWS did great coverage, not your sort of channel though Kirsty @CamillaTominey.”

“It was on #GBnews with Michael Portillo, he done a good job, we don’t need the #bbc,” a fourth typed, while a fifth concurred: “GB News covered it beautifully.” (sic)

While dozens of others similarly pointed out that the People’s Channel’s coverage included a feed from The Cenotaph as well as presenting live from the GB News studio from Camilla Tominey and Michael Portillo, others were angrier at the seemingly unfounded claim.

“Nonsense,” another X user fumed. “It’s simple scaremongering like saying that without the NHS we’d all die when other countries have better healthcare outcomes without an NHS.”

And a fellow critic raged: “I’ve just searched your timeline for any evidence of you criticising the BBC for producing fake news. Calling them out? I can’t find any. Maybe I shouldn’t have bothered?”

Even those who may have sided with Ms Allsopp’s point of view felt she missed the mark. One fan wrote: “That’s probably true. But it’s not sufficient reason for us to overlook deep-rooted institutional bias, editorial mishandling, and the pushing of ideology (whether it’s US politics, Gaza, or gender identity fantasies) from a supposedly neutral national broadcaster.”

However, Ms Allsopp did also receive the backing from a few X users, including one who commented: “I will defend the bbc no matter how imperfect it becomes. Like David Attenborough and Morcambe and wise we must have it.” (sic)

Ms Allsopp’s remarks were in stark contrast to none other than President Trump himself, who celebrated the news that Mr Davie had resigned following the Panorama scandal.

And as if X users flooding her inbox wasn’t enough for Ms Allsopp to tune into the People’s Channel, the White House itself encouraged the public to do so.

The White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt posted on X: “@BBCNews is dying because they are anti-Trump Fake News. Everyone should watch @GBNEWS!” (sic)
