Princess Kate has been praised for “doing a fantastic job” of keeping her “children’s lives as normal as possible”, given the amount of pressure that comes with being a royal.

Former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond described the Princess of Wales’s efforts for her children as “invaluable in their development”.

“It’s a fine balance, but I think she and William have succeeded in giving all three children a very good measure of privacy whilst satisfying the media and public demands for them to be seen in public”, Ms Bond told The Mirror.

The royal commentator said that Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis will have to get used to the publicity of royal life.

Ms Bond feels that they are already succeeding at this, as seen over the festive period.

She said: “They need to get used to the experience of being on show and on duty, because that is likely to be how it is for the rest of their lives.

“And, so far, the children don’t seem phased by meeting the crowds.

“In fact, I thought they all looked particularly at ease at Sandringham on Christmas Day.”

Charlotte was credited for showing her “confidence” during the festive celebrations.

The young royal won over crowds during the Royal Family’s traditional Christmas Day outing at Sandringham, pausing to take photographs with admirers who had gathered outside St Mary Magdalene Church.

Ms Bond previously said: “The children are an absolute delight to see at occasions like this.

“I think William and Catherine have done a wonderful job in acclimatising all three children to public life.”

She continued: “I was struck, in particular, by how confident young Charlotte seemed on Christmas Day.

“She was launching into the crowd by herself, no longer with her mother’s guiding hand on her shoulder, chatting with the well-wishers who’d gathered.

“Bending down to shake hands with wheelchair users, and even giving one or two members of the crowd a big hug.”

The young royal was carrying an armful of gifts as she made her way along the line of well-wishers.

Video footage shared on social media captured the young royal agreeing to pose for a selfie when asked by a member of the public.

“Can we have a photo with you?” one fan enquired, to which Charlotte responded: “Yes,” before moving closer for the picture.

Ms Bond added: “I think the Prince and Princess of Wales are doing a sterling job in giving the press and public just enough access to the children to satisfy curiosity.

“But I’m sure that their main priority is their children’s wellbeing and how comfortable they do or don’t feel with attending public events, and I think that will continue to be their strategy.”
