Hilary Swank has revealed she is expecting her third child at the age of 52, with the baby due in December.
The two-time Academy Award winner shared the happy news on Wednesday evening through a rather inventive Instagram video.
The clip shows her family dancing in darkness with glowsticks affixed to their bodies, transforming them into luminous stick figures moving to Bachman-Turner Overdrive’s Ain’t Seen Nothing Yet.
Partway through the footage, a fourth figure appears with a smaller glowing shape attached to its midsection, representing a baby bump.
Ms Swank accompanied the post with the caption: “A lot of people have been asking what project I’m doing next, this one releases in December.”
The new arrival will be the third child Ms Swank and entrepreneur Philip Schneider share. The duo wed in August 2018 following a two-year engagement.
Their twin daughters Aya and son Ohm arrived in April 2023, nearly five years after the wedding.
Ms Swank first disclosed her twin pregnancy during an appearance on Good Morning America in October 2022.
“This is something that I’ve been wanting for a long time and my next thing is I’m gonna be a mum,” she said at the time. “And not just of one but of two. It’s such a blessing. It’s a total miracle. It’s unbelievable.”
Prior to her marriage to Mr Schneider, the actress was married to actor Chad Lowe for nine years until 2006 and was later engaged to former professional tennis player Ruben Torres before they separated in 2016.
The actress has spoken candidly about the rewards of becoming a mother later in life.
In an interview with AP Entertainment, she described parenthood as “the greatest joy of my life,” adding: “I’m so grateful for these two miracles this late in my life.”
She also acknowledged the challenges, joking that sleepless nights were the hardest part of raising twins. “There’s two of them, so one will sleep through the night, but then the other won’t, so just when you think you’re going to get a break, they flip flop,” she said.
Speaking to People magazine earlier this year, Ms Swank reflected on the advantages of waiting.
“If I had had a kid in my 20s or my 30s, I think I’d be a much different parent than I am now,” she explained, noting that her established career allows her to “step in and step out when I choose, and that is just such a blessing.”
Ms Swank has earned two Best Actress Oscars. Her most recent screen role was in the Showtime thriller series Yellowjackets, alongside Sophie Nélisse, Jasmin Savoy Brown and Sophie Thatcher.
