Glastonbury Festival has revealed that tickets for its 2027 edition will go on sale in October, with the price reaching an unprecedented £408 per weekend pass, the first time the event has breached the £400 mark.

The figure, which includes a £5 booking fee, represents a £29.50 jump from the 2025 price.

The Somerset festival skipped 2026 as part of its traditional fallow year rotation, during which the Worthy Farm site is given time to recover.

Its last outing in 2025 saw Olivia Rodrigo, The 1975, and Neil Young headline the Pyramid Stage.

Next year’s event is scheduled to run from June 23 to 27, and organisers confirmed the sale dates via the festival’s official Instagram account on Tuesday.

Tickets bundled with coach travel will be available from 6pm on Thursday, October 1, while general admission passes follow at 9am on Sunday, October 4.

As is customary, the entire allocation is expected to be snapped up in under sixty minutes, with vast numbers of hopefuls competing simultaneously through online queues.

To combat ticket touting, Glastonbury requires all prospective buyers to have registered in advance through its website.

The festival has also adopted an automatic queuing mechanism in recent years, meaning fans must be logged in before sales open with a valid registration number ready.

The organisers declined to offer further comment beyond the sale details, though the scramble for passes is certain to be as fierce as ever following the year-long hiatus.

The record-setting price is part of a broader trend affecting the UK’s live music scene.

BBC News analysis found that major festival costs have climbed faster than inflation over the past decade, fuelled by rising energy and infrastructure expenses as well as labour shortages linked to Brexit.

Parklife saw the steepest real-terms increase since 2013, with tickets climbing roughly £69, equivalent to a 71 per cent rise, while Reading and Leeds experienced a more modest uplift of around £40, or 14 per cent.

Glastonbury’s own prices have risen by approximately £85 over the same period, amounting to a 30 per cent hike.

By contrast, last weekend’s Reading and Leeds festival froze its prices at 2025 levels, charging £325 per pass or £361 with early-bird entry.

In 2023, Glastonbury co-organiser Emily Eavis acknowledged it was a “challenging time” for organisers, citing “enormous rises in the costs of running this vast show” compounded by the financial toll of two pandemic-era cancellations.

Speculation about who will top the bill is already rife, with names including Harry Styles, Fontaines DC, Taylor Swift and Stevie Wonder all circulating among fans and industry watchers.

Ms Eavis has, however, firmly dismissed one rumoured act.

“No, it’s definitely not Madonna, I’ll tell you that,” she told BBC Radio 4’s PM programme, despite the pop icon having hinted at UK performances in 2027.

Ms Eavis went on to confirm that three headliners are already secured.

“We have got three headliners, and we’re very excited about it – it’s all coming together really well,” she said.

When pressed on whether Taylor Swift might be among them, Ms Eavis laughed but refused to be drawn further, saying she did not wish to discuss the line-up any more.

Music fans quickly reacted to the record prices with dismay. “Blimey, the prices for Glasto are getting crazy!” one X user typed in response to a news article about the prices.

“I went in 09/10/11 and it was nearly half that price then! Insane,” a second argued, while a third claimed: “So much for music for the people this is just corporate greed.”

However, others weren’t surprised: “I’d happily pay a grand if it guaranteed me a ticket.” (sic)
