Wahaca launches a new limited-edition dish this week that is sure to bring back memories of the school canteen, but with a Mexican twist.
The “Good Lunch” lands in Wahaca restaurants across the country tomorrow, September 16, taking its inspiration from the classic all-in-one trays found in school dining halls.
It is priced at £19.95, and 50p of every one sold goes to Chefs in Schools, a charity dedicated to transforming food culture in schools and ensuring every child has access to delicious, nutritious meals.
The ‘Good Lunch will be served all together on a tray. Diners pick two tacos from a range of fillings, alongside Wahaca’s new chipotle meatballs and either guacamole or a butter bean and confit garlic dip, served with tortilla chips.

Just like in the school canteen, dessert arrives at the same time as everything else. Diners will find a slice of rich chocolate mole cake with pouring cream right next to their main.
The lunch is available between 12pm and 4pm at Wahaca restaurants nationwide, running until October 14. It is designed to capture what a really great school lunch could look and taste like.
This comes as the Government published its first update to School Food Standards in more than 10 years, bringing school catering across England into line with the latest nutritional guidance.
On top of that, free school meals are being extended to every household receiving Universal Credit this month, meaning an extra 500,000 children now qualify. This marks the biggest expansion of the programme in years.
Wahaca co-founder Thomasina Miers is also co-founder and trustee of Chefs in Schools, and the charity works directly with school kitchen teams to help children eat better, more exciting food.

“The Good Lunch is our playful take on the classic school lunch tray, helping to shine a light on something that is so important — that every child deserves to have good food at school — and that it benefits the whole of society when they do.
