Burberry has unveiled a woollen jumper bearing an original watercolour by King Charles III, priced at £1,350, as part of the luxury brand’s fifth joint venture with Highgrove Gardens.

The painting portrays Birkhall, the early 18th-century Aberdeenshire property situated on the Balmoral Estate, and serves as the creative centrepiece for the entire capsule range.

His Majesty’s artwork has shaped both the collection’s prints and its green-toned colour palette, with an exclusive bay green version of Burberry’s iconic House Check running through trench coats, knitwear, cashmere and silk accessories.

The collaboration, announced on Tuesday, draws on a mutual appreciation of the British countryside shared by the heritage fashion house and the Gloucestershire estate where the King and Queen Camilla maintain their private residence.

Key items in the range span from £375 for a silk scarf displaying the royal watercolour framed by the seasonal bay green check, up to £1,950 for the Mayfair trench jacket lined with the Charles-inspired pattern. A cashmere scarf woven in Scotland and featuring the distinctive green House Check retails at £555.

The capsule also encompasses the Waterloo trench coat, a car coat and a quilted jacket finished with corduroy detailing.

Outerwear pieces come with detachable wool cashmere warmers and are constructed in England using 100 per cent organically grown cotton gabardine for both the outer fabric and lining.

Burberry has placed British craftsmanship and responsible material sourcing at the heart of the partnership, with sustainability a guiding principle throughout the production process.

Birkhall dates back to the early 1700s and was acquired by Prince Albert, Queen Victoria’s husband, in 1849.

It later passed to the future King George VI during the 1930s when he held the title Duke of York, and the late Queen Elizabeth and Princess Margaret reportedly “spent many holidays” at the property.

The King came into possession of Birkhall following the death of the Queen Mother in 2002, who had been fond of shooting, fishing and tending the gardens there.

Charles and Camilla honeymooned at the house in 2005 and have returned each summer since. The couple also retreated there when the then-Prince of Wales contracted Covid-19 in 2020.

Since inheriting the property, the King has continued to develop Birkhall’s gardens.

Highgrove’s gardens extend across roughly 15 acres and are overseen by The King’s Foundation, the charity founded by His Majesty. The estate has earned a reputation for its commitment to organic horticulture and environmental stewardship, reflecting Charles’s decades-long dedication to conservation.

Burberry has described the grounds as “considered among the most inspiring and innovative” in the country.

Earlier editions of the Highgrove x Burberry partnership featured contributions from artists Helen Bullock and Holly Mills, with a focus on championing emerging British creative talent.

The brand has previously stated that it shares The King’s Foundation’s commitment to nurturing young British artists, a mission that continues to underpin the ongoing relationship between the luxury house and the royal estate.
