The BBC “downplayed Brexit referendum and small boats crisis”, the former Culture Secretary Sir John Whittingdale told GB News.

Admitting that the corporation is booming with journalists “who do their best”, he added: “there has been a sort of institutional mindset for a long time, which has meant that, for instance, going back to the Brexit referendum, they didn’t really think that anybody was like going to actually vote for Brexit.

“They downplayed and didn’t ever really appreciate the strength of feeling amongst the people about the level of migration and the small boats crisis.”
