Aldi UK has divided the nation with two new mayonnaise flavours that pay homage to traditional festive flavours.

The supermarket’s Sage & Onion Stuffing Flavoured Mayonnaise and Gravy Flavoured Mayonnaise were spotted on shelves on December 1, priced at just £1 each.

News of the unconventional condiments spread quickly after food account Newfoodsuk shared images of the products, prompting hundreds of shoppers to weigh in.

It’s fair to say reactions have been mixed. While some customers can’t wait to get their hands on the Christmas-themed spreads, others are questioning whether these flavours should exist at all.

One shopper summed up the general bewilderment perfectly with the quip: “What the Hellman?”

For plenty of shoppers, these festive condiments are a step too far. “Absolutely grim,” declared one disgruntled social media user, while another simply wrote: “Sound vile.”

Several made their feelings clear with responses like “Absolutely not” and “Just no”.

One particularly unimpressed shopper advised: “Yuck, put them back on the shelf and forget you saw them.”

‘I could just about do the sage. But gravy? No no no no no’

Another questioned the entire concept, writing: “Don’t put sauce where it doesn’t belong.”

The gravy variety seemed to attract particular scepticism, with one person commenting: “I could just about do the sage. But gravy? No no no no no.”

Some wondered why the products even exist, with a doubtful shopper pointing out: “Can’t you just add some stuffing mix or gravy to the mayo you already have?”

Not everyone was horrified by the festive flavours, though, with exclamations like “Omg I need them” and “Ooh, looks like I’m going to Aldi” flooding the comments.

One fan was thrilled to see a returning favourite, writing: “My sage and onion mayo is back.”

Several customers were genuinely tempted, with comments like “I think the sage and onion stuffing one would be amazing” and “Oh stop it, the gravy mayonnaise – yum”.

One adventurous shopper had already given the stuffing variety a go, confirming it tasted “nice” on a chicken roll.

However, the gravy version received a more lukewarm reception from those who had actually tried it.

“Like gravy and like mayo. Purchased the gravy mayo and didn’t like it lol – was only £1 I think so no harm done,” admitted one customer.

The launch of Aldi’s festive mayo duo comes shortly after the supermarket introduced three “divisive yet delicious” Christmas cheeses.

The supermarket giant has embraced the “so wrong, it’s right” philosophy with its latest Specially Selected range, featuring combinations that sound more like desserts than traditional cheeseboard offerings.

In Aldi’s biggest festive cheese selection to date, there’s a Wensleydale mixed with Aldi’s signature Ballycastle Irish Cream, white chocolate and caramel.

The “decadent” chocolately cheese is joined by a tropical cheddar and pineapple variety, plus a sweet and smoky maple cheddar, all priced at £2.49 for 200g.

Cheese fanatics can also feast on Aldi’s “showstopping” £13.99 Luxury Cheese Truckle Tower, weighing in at a whopping 1kg – perfect for impressive guests or munching your way through the festive period.
