Coronation Street viewers have grown increasingly worried about the future of beloved character Fiz Dobbs, with many predicting she could depart Weatherfield in heartbreaking circumstances after a quarter of a century on the ITV soap.

Eagle-eyed fans have picked up on what they believe are subtle hints in recent episodes suggesting the Underworld machinist, portrayed by Jennie McAlpine, may be heading towards a devastating health storyline.

The speculation has intensified across social media platforms, with Reddit users in particular sharing their theories about potential foreshadowing by the show’s writers.

Should their predictions prove accurate, it would mark an emotional end to one of the programme’s most enduring characters, who first arrived on the cobbles back in 2001.

The moment that set alarm bells ringing among viewers occurred last week when Fiz was spotted dashing towards the garage where her husband Tyrone was having a private conversation with Ronnie Bailey.

Despite covering only a short distance to deliver Tyrone’s lunch, the character appeared noticeably out of breath and dizzy upon arrival.

Fans found the scene particularly odd given that Tyrone works within clear sight of their front door at number 9, questioning why such a brief jog would leave a woman in her forties so visibly winded.

The emphasis placed on her physical struggle has convinced many soap watchers that the ITV programme is deliberately planting seeds for an upcoming medical diagnosis storyline.

Viewers took to Reddit to share their suspicions, with one writing: “Did anyone think they are setting Fiz Dobbs up for a health storyline?

“I mean, why else would she need to run after Tyrone with his lunch when he can see his front door from where he works? Foreshadowing?”

Another fan speculated: “Yeah, her running over the road and being out of breath and lightheaded for a woman in her forties seemed very weird!

“We’ve had a cancer story with Kev, so they can’t do a lung cancer story with her, so possibly an issue with her heart, maybe?”

A third viewer remarked: “My instant thought, with the way they made a point of the breathlessness and dizziness, was they were going down the route of a heart condition.”

Others suggested the storyline could serve as an exit for the long-standing character, with one commenting: “Yeah, I could see this being an exit storyline.”

Fiz has been a fixture on Coronation Street since 2001, when she arrived as a troubled teenager who had been placed into care due to neglect by her mother, Cilla Brown.

She subsequently took on responsibility for raising her younger brother Chesney (Sam Aston) and has weathered numerous dramatic storylines over the years.

In 2009, she wed former teacher John Stape, and was later wrongfully convicted of murdering Colin Fishwick – a crime actually committed by her husband.

She currently resides at number 9 with Tyrone and their three children: Hope, Ruby, and Dorin.

The family experienced trauma last year when Tyrone suffered temporary paralysis after being struck by Carl Webster.

Fiz’s strange behaviour continued into Monday’s episode, where she awkwardly attempted to comfort Sarah Platt on the anniversary of her late son Billy’s birth, later admitting her embarrassment to Tyrone.
