Soup sold in British supermarkets, including Tesco and Waitrose, has been recalled over fears the tins could become dangerous to consumers.
An issue with the metal cans means that they could “swell and potentially rupture”, putting customers at risk.

Batch Code: L07XC (all time stamps)
Tesco gave an urgent warning to its customers. A post read: “Baxters Food Group are recalling a specific date and batch code of Baxters Chef Selections Cullen Skink soup 400g.
“This is due to a spoilage issue which may cause cans to swell and potentially rupture. If you’ve bought an affected product, please don’t eat it.
“Instead, return it to any Tesco store for a full refund. No receipt is required. For further information about this recall, please contact Baxters on 0800 389 8389 [email protected].
“Alternatively, you can also contact Tesco Customer Services via our contact us page, where you’ll find a range of ways to get in touch.”
Waitrose shared similar advice for anyone who bought the affected product in its stores. In a statement, it warned customers, “do not consume” the soup.
Instead, “package up the items and return the product to your local Waitrose & Partners branch for a refund”. For more information, contact Waitrose Customer Care on 0800 188 884, Option 4, or get in touch with Baxters. No other Baxters products are known to be affected.
Food items are recalled or pulled from shelves if they are found to pose a potential health or safety risk to consumers.
The Food Standards Agency (FSA) states: “If there is a problem with a food product that means it should not be sold, then it might be ‘withdrawn’ (taken off the shelves) or ‘recalled’ (when customers are asked to return the product).
“The FSA issues Product Recall Information Notices to let consumers and local authorities know about problems associated with food. In some cases, a ‘Food Alert for Action’ is issued. This provides local authorities with details of specific action to be taken on behalf of consumers.”
