He later wrote: “Lesley Douglas was incredibly tolerant of my behaviour at Radio 2.”

Brand then said many of those who won prizes on the show were female. “This is because there was an additional aspect to the prize which could never be explicitly stated due to the BBC’s rigid policy prohibiting the misuse of the disabled lavvy,” he explained.

He resigned from the BBC in 2008 after he was suspended by the broadcaster along with Jonathan Ross. The pair had on air alluded to having sex with the granddaughter of Faulty Towers actor Andrew Sachs, resulting in around 45,000 complaints from the public.

Ms Douglas also resigned following the scandal.

An internal review conducted by Peter Johnston, the BBC’s director of editorial complaints and reviews, found eight internal complaints had been made on Brand’s conduct, but nothing was done.

One incident, which occurred in 2008 but was not reported until 2019, saw the claimant assert that Brand exposed himself to her just moments before going on air.
