Marco Bezzecchi, currently leading the MotoGP world championship, has been excluded from today’s Czech Grand Prix following a violent confrontation with a track official during Saturday’s sprint race.
The Italian rider crashed into the gravel at Turn 3 of the Brno circuit with only two laps remaining. Video footage captured him rushing towards his stricken Aprilia as marshals worked to recover the machine.
Bezzecchi appeared to shove one of the officials before striking him across the face. The championship leader lashed out twice before departing the scene.
His suspension carries significant title implications. The gap between Bezzecchi and Aprilia teammate Jorge Martin now stands at just 15 points, with the potential for further damage to his championship position following today’s enforced absence.

The incident has provoked fury among MotoGP supporters, with many demanding far stricter sanctions than a single race suspension.
“This is not a race ban, this should be expulsion from MotoGP this year. What a crazy fool! Slap him with the biggest penalty ever,” wrote one social media user.
Others highlighted the vital contribution of volunteer marshals. “Without marshals motorsport cannot happen,” one fan stated. “They put their lives at risk for no pay.”
Several supporters argued the punishment was wholly inadequate. “In any other sport the penalty would be much harsher. A one race ban is a slap on the wrist, and sends the wrong message to everyone involved,” one commented.
Another demanded a minimum three-race suspension, insisting officials should have made an example of the championship leader.
The governing body issued a formal statement confirming the sanction. MotoGP stewards ruled that Bezzecchi’s conduct constituted “an action prejudicial to the interests of the sport” under Article 3.3.2.2 of the FIM Grand Prix World Championship Regulations.
The statement noted that on 20th June 2026, following his crash, the rider “pushed and struck circuit marshals who were trying to recover your machine.”
Bezzecchi was summoned to appear before the stewards’ panel to present his defence. However, officials determined the infringement was too severe and barred him from any further participation in the Czech Grand Prix weekend.
Aprilia Racing mounted an appeal against the decision but were unsuccessful in overturning the suspension.
Reports suggest Bezzecchi became enraged after hearing his motorcycle’s engine revving while marshals moved it.
Despite his exclusion from today’s race, Bezzecchi remained at the Masaryk Circuit and sought out the marshal he had assaulted.

The visibly emotional rider embraced the official and presented him with a gift as a gesture of reconciliation.
Bezzecchi subsequently published an apology on Instagram addressing the wider racing community.
“I would like to apologise to the entire MotoGP community for my behaviour toward the trackside marshal,” he wrote. “I’m also sorry because I know how much effort and sacrifice marshals make to endure our safety.”
The Aprilia rider acknowledged his actions were indefensible. “This behaviour shouldn’t happen and there is no justification for it. I apologise to everyone, Aprilia Racing and all of my fans.”
