Want a hair makeover that takes years off your appearance? Your first instinct may be to conceal any unwelcome greys.

However, there’s far more to vibrant, youthful locks than a quick colour change. GB News spoke exclusively to an expert about his most effective anti-ageing hair hacks for women.

“There’s a direct connection between how your hair looks and how youthful you feel, and it goes far beyond grey coverage,” said dermatologist and hair transplant surgeon Dr Mehmet Göker.

“In my clinic, we see patients all the time who look dramatically younger just by changing how they care for, cut, and style their hair.”

Sharing his top tips, the expert urged ladies to “keep it full, soft, and shiny” with hair-boosting ingredients.

“As we age, hair can lose density and gloss. Using lightweight serums with panthenol or peptides and switching to sulfate-free, moisturising shampoos makes a visible difference,” the dermatologist revealed.

He also advised women to prioritise protection, explaining that heat tools, UV rays, and pollution “speed up hair ageing”.

The expert confirmed: “UV protectant spray and low-heat styling tools are small changes that go a long way.”

These strategies can deliver excellent long-term results if practised consistently.

However, for a quick fix, cut, colour, and style are your best friends. While restoring thickness, shine, and health can take months, a trip to the salon can make your hair “instantly more youthful”.

LATEST BEAUTY TIPS AND TRICKS:

Layers can be game-changing for your hair, creating a ‘lifting and softening’ effect

For a more vibrant mane, Dr Göker stressed that creating a “lifted” appearance is fundamental.

Highlighting the benefit of layers, he warned that long, heavy lengths can “drag the face down”.

Instead, go for chin-to-collarbone-length cuts with layers around the cheekbones, as these have a “lifting and softening” effect.

As for colour, a touch of brightness can go a long way. The hair guru explained: “Subtle highlights around the temples and jawline add movement and luminosity, mimicking the youthful ‘glow’ of younger hair.”

On the other hand, overly dark or cool tones can accentuate signs of ageing such as paleness and thinness.

So, while chocolate brown or jet black hair may have been striking in your younger years, caramel or honey-hued highlights may be more flattering nowadays.

Dr Göker concluded: “Looking younger through your hair isn’t about reversing time – it’s about restoring energy and dimension.

“When your hair moves, shines, and flatters your facial features, it naturally gives off a more youthful presence.”
