Wales snow prompts ‘don’t travel’ warning with more expected | UK News

People are being advised against all but essential road travel in parts of Wales with snow causing hazardous conditions.

A warning for up to 10cm (4in) of snow is in place until 11:00 GMT on Sunday affecting Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Conwy, Gwynedd, Pembrokeshire and Powys.

The Met Office has another warning in place for most of Wales from 12:00 on Sunday until 12:00 on Monday with up to 3cm (1.2in) of snow likely for some and up to 8cm (3.1in) on high ground, and increasingly wintry showers overnight.

North Wales Police advised against travel in some places due to conditions affecting the A55 in Gwynedd and Anglesey and a bus operator has also suspended some services.

Gwynfor Coaches, which runs buses in Anglesey, Caernarfon, Llanberis and Snowdonia, said it had suspended some services due to rural roads being “completely unsafe, and drivers unable to come in to work”.

In a Facebook post, North Wales Police said there were “issues in relation to the current weather conditions” affecting the A55 west of Abergwyngregyn, Gwynedd, to Anglesey, as well as the Felinheli bypass.

“Please avoid travelling unless absolutely essential,” it added.

Traffic Wales has reported several roads across the country affected by the weather conditions.

Newport County said its Sunday League Two fixture against Tranmere Rovers at Rodney Parade has been postponed due to an unplayable pitch.

The Met Office said: “Heavy snow showers will affect western parts of Wales during Sunday morning bringing accumulations of 2-4cm of snow within a couple of hours, and a chance of 10cm in a few places through the morning.”

An ice warning for a large swathe of Wales is also in place until noon.

And another warning for snow and ice between Sunday and Monday afternoon covers most of Wales apart from Anglesey.
