About 1,000 Greater Manchester Bee Network bus drivers will go ahead with planned strikes after “talks broke down” over pay, a union has said.

The Unite union said 1,000 drivers from Metroline’s Sharston, Hyde Road, Ashton and Wythenshawe depots would take action from Tuesday to Thursday.

Transport for Greater Manchester earlier announced strikes planned for the same time by another 1,100 drivers working for Stagecoach and First Bus Rochdale had been suspended.

A Metroline spokesperson said: “We are disappointed that Unite has continued to pursue strike action rather than giving drivers the choice to ballot on our improved offer of an 8.8% increase over two years.”

The firm said the offer was in line with Stagecoach’s and said it remained “open and committed to finding a resolution”.

Unite said strike action planned by drivers from the other two companies had been suspended after their employers “came back to the table with a revised pay offer”.

“Workers at Metroline will continue with industrial action as planned as the employer has not made an offer deemed acceptable to our members,” the union’s regional officer Colin Hayden said.

About 2,000 drivers took industrial action last week in their ongoing pay dispute.
