Two people have been taken to hospital after a ceiling collapsed at a Toby Carvery while guests were eating dinner.

Joey Pass was dining at the restaurant in Brockworth, Gloucester, on Sunday evening and said a young girl and a woman were helped by other guests after part of the ceiling fell down just after 18:00 BST.

Mr Pass, 31 and from Dursley, said he was standing outside with one of his children when he “suddenly heard a massive crash”.

“I could see loads of dust and heard a kid scream so I rushed in to see if everyone was OK,” he said. A spokesperson for Toby Carvery apologised and said it was grateful to hear the incident “did not cause harm to any guests”.

They added: “We can confirm that a small section of our Brockworth restaurant has been affected by damage to the ceiling.

“As a precaution we immediately evacuated the restaurant and called on the support of the emergency services to assess the building and guests who were dining in the vicinity.”

South Western Ambulance Service said it took two patients to Gloucestershire Royal Hospital.

It is understood they did not sustain major injuries.

Video from the scene shows a large piece of plaster has fallen from the ceiling with lights fittings left hanging.

A child is heard screaming and saying: “I’m scared”.

Plaster and debris can be clearly seen over a table, chairs and the floor with some diners in the restaurant covered in dust.

“First aid was given by a frantic woman who was eating there,” Mr Pass said.

“I felt concerned and worried – what if that happened to my children or my wife?

“My daughter keeps asking about the little girl that the roof fell on.”

The Toby Carvery spokesperson said the building had been confirmed as being safe to use and its maintenance contractors would be on site soon to carry out repairs.

“Whilst we were grateful to hear from the emergency services that incident did not cause harm to any guests, we apologise to all guests impacted and our care team will be contacting them directly over the coming days,” they added.
