Three people have been arrested after a multi-vehicle crash on the A8 near Edinburgh Airport on Monday in which a woman died.

Police said two women, aged 23 and 19, and a 32-year-old man were arrested in connection with the crash, which happened at around 09:25 near Newbridge.

Officers previously said they were trying to trace the occupants of a grey Mercedes A250 who had left the scene of the collision on foot.

A 58-year-old woman, who was driving a Hyundai i30 was pronounced dead at the scene. Four other people were taken to hospital but later released.

Four vehicles were involved in the crash including a grey Skoda Karoq and Renault Capture which could be seen flipped onto its roof.

The road was closed for a number of hours to allow an investigation to take place but reopened at 19:05.

Sgt Mike Thomson said: “Our thoughts remain with the family of the woman who died.

“Inquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.”
