A woman in her 50s has died after suffering a medical emergency at a Tesco supermarket.
Authorities were called to the Silk Street branch in Rochdale yesterday afternoon.
Greater Manchester Police confirmed that emergency services received reports of the incident at roughly 3.05pm.
The force said they were initially contacted over a concern for the welfare of a woman inside the store.
Despite the efforts of those who responded, she could not be saved and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Footage circulated on social media showed an air ambulance helicopter touching down in the supermarket’s car park as crews dealt with the emergency.
A rapid response vehicle and a standard road ambulance from North West Ambulance Service were also dispatched to the scene.
Customers inside the store were asked to leave the building.
Others were directed to vacate the car park to make way for the arriving emergency services.
The response caused considerable disruption at the branch throughout yesterday afternoon, with parts of the premises inaccessible to the public while paramedics and other personnel worked.
Store employees and managers were among the first to help the woman, providing initial assistance before paramedics took over her care upon arrival.
The air ambulance was called to offer further medical support.
Greater Manchester Police confirmed that the woman’s next of kin have been made aware of her death.
The force has not revealed the exact nature of the medical emergency.
The woman’s identity has not been made public.
GB News has approached Tesco for further comment.
