Ten fire engines and around 70 firefighters have been called to a building fire on High Street in Beckenham.

The blaze broke out near an Odeon cinema in the South London town.

The London Fire Brigade has urged the public to avoid the area and keep windows and doors closed due to smoke travel.

Half of the roof of a mixed-use building, currently under refurbishment, remains alight, according to the fire service.

The second and first floors of the building are also partially on fire.

A member of the public recorded a video of the blaze around 8:30 this morning.

Thick black smoke can be seen spreading across the area.

No injuries have been reported, and the cause of the fire on the upper levels remains under investigation.

A spokesman from the London Fire Service said: “Firefighters are working hard to prevent the spread of the fire to adjoining buildings, including a cinema.”

The local Odeon is home to six screens.

The incident is causing major traffic disruption in Beckenham.

Authorities are asking people to avoid travelling through the area whilst the incident remains ongoing.

Road closures are in place.

The Brigade received the first of 18 calls just before 8am this morning.

Control Officers have mobilised crews from Beckenham, Bromley, Woodside, Forest Hill and surrounding fire stations to the scene.

A 32-metre turntable ladder from Forest Hill is also attending and is being used as a water tower to help extinguish the fire from above.
