Former St Helens and Great Britain scrum-half Sean Long has stepped down as head coach of Championship club Oldham.

Long guided the Roughyeds to the League 1 title and last season they finished fourth in the second tier.

The club say his departure is by “mutual consent” and details of their 2026 coaching team will be announced in due course.

Long was previously head coach of Featherstone before leaving them in 2023 to become assistant coach at Wakefield.

As a player, he was 2000 Man of Steel and won Super League, Challenge Cup and World Club Challenge honours.

Oldham won 15 of their 24 games during the 2025 season but were beaten 40-4 at home by Halifax Panthers in the eliminators.
