Nigel Farage has openly mocked Labour on GB News after a senior Tory applied pressure on the Prime Minister to give Reform greater representation in the House of Lords.

The Reform UK leader, whose party has led in more than 175 opinion polls since the General Election, hit out at Sir Keir Starmer over ignoring his plea to address the democratic disparity between the Commons and its unelected counterpart.

With Mr Farage’s party without any representation in the House of Lords, the leader of the Conservative peers Lord True has demanded representation for every party in the House of Commons.

The top Tory argued that it was a “sensitive constitutional principle”, The Telegraph said.

Earlier in the year, Mr Farage appealed to Sir Keir directly to urge the Labour leader to hand out peerages to Reform UK alumni to ameliorate the “democratic disparity” between the two chambers.

Yet, Reform’s frontman did not receive a response.

Speaking to GB News about Lord True’s statement, Mr Farage said: “The idea that the party that’s led the last 175 opinion polls has zero representation in the House of Lords doesn’t say much about the state of our democracy.

“What I found astonishing was that I wrote a very polite letter to Keir Starmer just over three months ago to say, ‘look, we need some representation’.

“‘It may not be very big, but some representation.’ And I couldn’t believe it. I didn’t even get the courtesy of a reply.

“Now, I understand it. The Government is in trouble. They’re terrified of us. In every PMQs, all he seems to talk about is me in generally quite disparaging terms.

“Thank you to Lord True for being bigger than just looking at party politics and saying that Reform needs representation and it needs to happen and it needs to happen very, very soon.

“The current situation is monstrous.”

In the latest list of peerages, Reform UK was missing from the string of unelected appointees from the likes of Labour, the Conservatives and Liberal Democrats.

Labour recently came under fire for appointing 25 of its own to the Upper Chamber despite the party repeatedly denouncing the Lords.

However, Mr Farage’s party has stormed ahead its fellow parliamentarians in almost 200 opinion polls since Sir Keir swung open the door to No10.

But still, with five MPs in its midst, Reform UK is lacking any representation in the House of Lords.

Parties with fewer MPs in the Commons have managed to swindle representation in the House, with Plaid Cymru and the Green Party having two peers each.

“My view is that if Reform wins seats in the House of Commons, they should have seats here,” Lord True argued.

“The beauty of this House is its complete freedom. So any peer here wants to put down an amendment, that amendment must be heard.

“So having somebody from a party that is represented in the House of Commons, to take a detailed part in examination and to put forward that party’s point of view, I think is a sensible constitutional principle.”
