The Prince of Wales made a surprise appearance on a special Earthshot Prize edition of The Graham Norton Show, where he opened up about his family’s television habits.
Prince William told the audience that The Celebrity Traitors has become a firm favourite in the Wales household.
“I love it; the family love it. Charlotte and Louis are obsessed with it. It’s really good telly,” he said.
His unexpected arrival on the chat show drew audible gasps from those in the studio audience, as he joined fellow guests to discuss the environmental award ahead of next month’s ceremony.
William also revealed a mischievous encounter with EastEnders actor Ross Kemp, who had been deeply wary of physical contact ever since the opening episode of the celebrity series.
“I saw Ross Kemp the day after the first episode and I couldn’t help but try in the most appropriate way to touch him to see what reaction I got from him. Turns out he was really jumpy!” the prince recounted.
Mr Kemp’s suspicions about being killed through touch ultimately proved well-founded, though not in the way he anticipated.
In Thursday’s episode, traitors James Acaster and Maya Jama dispatched him via a yawn and poisoned perfume rather than physical contact.
When asked about how he relaxes away from royal duties, William pointed to music and cinema as his preferred escapes.
“It is music and film. I love getting immersed in deep-thinking films,” he explained. The heir to the throne singled out Christopher Nolan as a particular favourite, expressing deep admiration for the filmmaker’s body of work.
“I’m a big fan of everything Christopher Nolan does. His films are fantastic; The Dark Knight series is psychologically dark and deep and I absolutely love that,” William said.
He praised Mr Nolan’s ability to transform ambitious, unconventional concepts into compelling entertainment, while noting he also enjoys action films alongside more cerebral fare.
LATEST ROYAL DEVELOPMENTS:
William’s fellow guests on the sofa each have their own ties to the Earthshot Prize.
Cate Blanchett serves on the prize’s council, Robert Irwin acts as a global ambassador, and Hannah Waddingham previously hosted the 2023 awards ceremony in Singapore.
Next month, the Earthshot Prize heads to Mumbai, where William will engage with Bollywood stars, take to the crease with cricketing legends, and oversee the awarding of £5million in prize money.
The special Earthshot edition of The Graham Norton Show is scheduled to broadcast on Saturday evening at 10.40pm on BBC One, building anticipation ahead of the November ceremony.
