Prince George has arrived back at the family residence in Great Windsor Park this Friday morning, marking the end of his first half term as a boarder at Eton College.

The 13-year-old heir to the throne has spent the past six weeks living away from his parents, the Prince and Princess of Wales, since beginning at the £65,673-a-year school in early September.

He now has 16 days at home with his family, a generous break known as “long leave” in Eton’s calendar, with pupils not due back until November 8.

Princess Charlotte, 11, and Prince Louis, eight, are likewise off from Lambrook School for the fortnight, meaning the Waleses will be reunited as a five for the first time since George’s departure.

The Princess of Wales had already hinted at how much she was anticipating this reunion.

During a recent visit to a charity shop operated by East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices in Hoveton, near Norwich, Catherine spoke openly about her feelings while chatting with shoppers in the café area.

Denise Ashton, 68, who was sitting with friend Essie Landsborough, 75, recounted the conversation afterwards: “She said she’s looking forward to George coming home she’s missed him.”

Ms Ashton added: “They may be going somewhere (during the break).”

Catherine, who is patron of EACH, brought up the approaching half term on several occasions as she toured the shop and met local residents.

Earlier that day, she had visited The Treehouse hospice in Ipswich, inspecting construction plans for a new hydrotherapy pool and wellbeing suite.

The extended break encompasses two of autumn’s most popular celebrations, with Halloween and Bonfire Night both falling during the holiday period.

Catherine has previously been spotted purchasing Halloween costumes for her children, though the family typically keeps such festivities private.

A fireworks display at Royal Windsor Racecourse, situated less than a quarter of an hour from Forest Lodge, offers one potential outing; the event bills itself as a welcoming evening for families as bonfire season winds down.

William and Catherine have long made it a habit to scale back their public engagements when their children are off school, prioritising family time.

With George now living away from home full-time, these windows together as a household of five carry added significance.

George began attending Eton on September 8, arriving with both parents at his side.

He was greeted by head master Simon Henderson, who told the future monarch: “Welcome, good luck, enjoy it.”

The young prince subsequently changed into the institution’s distinctive school dress, a black tailcoat, waistcoat and pinstriped trousers paired with a stiff white collar, a uniform that has been standard since the 1960s.

An official photograph was taken by Matt Porteous to mark the occasion.
