A manhunt has been launched for three men after a man was shot in the back and stabbed in the leg in his own driveway in Huddersfield yesterday evening.

West Yorkshire Police were called to Springwood Hall Gardens on Thursday, November 20, following reports of a possible firearms discharge in the street at around 5.35pm.

A police guard remains outside the property.

A 27-year-old man was found in a car on the driveway at the scene and suffered a serious leg injury and minor injuries to his back.

The victim was taken to the hospital for treatment, where it was determined the leg injury, which is not being treated as life-threatening, had been caused by a bladed weapon.

The injury to his back appeared to be from a firearm discharge.

“Two male suspects are believed to have been involved in the assault and fled the scene in a black car driven by a 3rd person,” West Yorkshire Police confirmed.

All three suspects remain at large.

Detective Inspector Tom Hilyer of HMET, who is leading the investigation, said: “Any incident in which firearms are discharged in our communities is treated with the utmost seriousness, and I can promise residents a full investigation into what took place is underway.

“In this instance, it appears a firearm was discharged with suspects then assaulting the victim inside his car with a bladed weapon before making off.

“This has clearly been a very violent, targeted, incident and it is important persons prepared to behave in such a lawless way are brought to justice as quickly as possible.

“From enquires, we do think there were potential witnesses present in the street at the time of the shooting and we would ask them, or anyone who has relevant footage or information which could assist enquiries, to contact us.”

The street is said to be popular with families, and there are several properties rented by groups of university students.

One neighbour said that the victim’s life was “saved” by a local first aider.

“I heard the screaming and him crying in pain. A neighbour put towels on his leg. I think it was bleeding,” she told YorkshireLive.

“I have kids and they go to school and sometimes the Mosque, and now I feel concerned and worried. It’s happened near my house.”

Another local resident said they “heard gunshots and then screaming”.

West Yorkshire Police is now urging any witnesses or anyone with information regarding the attack to come forward.
