Patients have been evacuated and a major incident declared at University Hospital Southampton this morning after a blaze erupted at the facility.

More than 110 firefighters from Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service responded to the emergency with specialist equipment at 5:30am.

Hospital authorities have confirmed that patients were moved to safety during the incident, while emergency services established road closures around the site.

They stated that the accident and emergency department is redirecting patients elsewhere, with exceptions made only for those whose condition “is deemed life or limb threatening”.

The trust has also requested that members of the public refrain from visiting the premises.

All scheduled outpatient appointments for today have been called off as a result of the disruption.

Firefighters brought the blaze under control soon after their arrival, and officials continue to manage the aftermath.

Authorities have confirmed that nobody sustained injuries during the incident.

“At its peak, more than 110 firefighters were mobilised to the incident. Breathing apparatus, hose reel jets and an Aerial Ladder Platform are in use.

“The fire is now under control; crews remain on scene to dampen down.

“”Nobody has been injured as a result of the fire and patients in all affected areas have been evacuated to safe areas of the hospital.”
