Greater Manchester Police has said it is investigating after a crutch appeared to be thrown at the referee following Oldham Athletic’s defeat by Crawley Town on Saturday.

Footage shared on social media shows a fan throwing the crutch in the direction of referee David Rock as he was walking towards the tunnel at Boundary Park.

Rock sent off two Oldham players – Kai Payne and Kane Drummond – during the first 30 minutes of their defeat by League Two’s bottom side.

When asked by Sport, Greater Manchester Police said it was aware of the incident and was investigating.

Sport has also contacted Oldham Athletic for comment.

Crawley’s win was their first in 11 League Two games and put the pressure on the Latics, who themselves have struggled and are in 21st place in the table.
