Northern lights dazzle for second night across UK | UK News

The northern lights were captured for the second night in a row across the United Kingdom.

After a large solar eruption on the Sun earlier this week – known as a Coronal Mass Ejection – our atmosphere continues to be hit by increased solar energy.

On Tuesday night Earth was hit by another strong solar storm registering 4 – on a scale of 1 to 5.

While more cloud and some rain across meant the aurora wasn’t as visible for many, the storm was strong enough for people in southern England to once again see a spectacular display.

Over the last couple of nights our Weather Watchers have sent in some spectacular pictures.

This latest solar storm has now weakened so space weather forecasts from the Met Office don’t suggest another display of the northern lights over the next few days.

But, with solar activity generally remaining active there should be more opportunities to see the aurora in the coming months.

If you’ve taken any pictures of the northern lights – or indeed any interesting weather – you can sign up here.
