Amazon MGM has officially confirmed the search for the next James Bond actor is underway.

Nina Gold, the acclaimed casting director behind Game of Thrones and multiple Star Wars films, is said to be leading the hunt for Daniel Craig’s successor.

The studio said in a statement: “The search for the next James Bond is underway.

“While we don’t plan to comment on specific details during the casting process, we’re excited to share more news with 007 fans as soon as the time is right.”

The announcement marks a major step in the franchise’s transition under Amazon’s ownership.

The race to replace Daniel Craig has captivated Bond fans since the actor stepped away from the role following 2021’s No Time to Die.

Speculation intensified after longtime Bond producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli announced in February 2025 they would hand creative control of the franchise to Amazon MGM Studios.

Jeff Bezos later said the company’s ambition for the franchise was simply to “make great movies”.

Reports last year suggested director Denis Villeneuve, who is set to helm the first Bond film of the Amazon era, may favour casting a lesser-known actor as the next 007.

Steven Knight, creator of Peaky Blinders, has been chosen to write the screenplay for the upcoming film.

Mr Villeneuve’s appointment as director was confirmed last year, giving the filmmaker significant influence over the franchise’s future direction.

Current production timelines suggest the next Bond film may not arrive in cinemas until 2028.

Fans of the popular spy film were quick to share their reactions to the announcement.

One fan commented on Instagram: “If Amazon messes this up, it will go down as worse than Disney with Star Wars. So make sure to carry on the legacy of James Bond the way it deserves to be.”

“Only took them 5 years,” complained another.

Another fan warned: “Don’t f*** it up please.”

“Hard to beat Daniel Craig!” someone else added.

Several high-profile actors have already been linked to the coveted role.

Aaron Taylor-Johnson, known for Bullet Train, was previously considered a leading contender, whilst Tom Holland, Harris Dickinson and Jacob Elordi have also been heavily linked with the role.

More recently, Callum Turner has emerged as a possible frontrunner.

The actor has built a steady career over the past decade with roles in The Boys in the Boat, Emma and the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them franchise.

Industry observers have suggested Mr Turner possesses the screen presence and physical profile traditionally associated with Bond.
