A woman claims she has reached the end of her “tether” after a row broke out with her neighbour over the unchecked growth of a garden weed.

Hazel Tromans first wrote to the private landlord who owns the block of flats next door to her in Malt Mill Lane in Halesowen in 2020 to control the brambles in their garden, which had encroached into her yard.

Tromans asked the landlord to tame the brambles in his property’s garden that had grown over, under and through her garden fence.

Half a decade on, and the 83-year-old said nothing had been done and she was fed up.

Tromans said the neighbouring landlord, Arun Bahal, had told her she could cut them down herself and throw the trimmings back over the fence.

But due to her age, she said she was unable to do this.

The woman also said she was not prepared to pay someone to do it, as it was her neighbour’s responsibility.

“The other side of my fence is nothing but brambles,” Tromans said.

“They are growing over the top, through the gaps and underneath.”

The elderly woman said some of the bramble was coming through what “must be at least 20 to 25 feet”.

“My late husband and I have spent thousands upkeeping our garden over the years,” Tromans said.

“But, I’m not going to pay to cut his brambles – that’s his responsibility.”

The elderly woman claims to be fed up after years of requests

Dudley Council had told Tromans that it was unable to intervene as it was on privately owned land.

Tromans said: “We have always been good neighbours”.

“But now I’m fed up with the situation,” she said.

Bahal said he would “try and find someone to do the work” when questioned about Troman’s requests.

He said: “I have lots of properties”.

“I am trying my best to get it sorted,” Bahal concluded.

Meanwhile, a mother was left furious after an “entitled” neighbour complained about her daughter playing in the garden.

The three-year-old girl regularly played with toys in the garden which angered a local resident.

The mother wrote on Reddit that her retired neighbour “yelled at my three-year-old … who was plying in our back yard and was being a little loud”.

“They yelled at her because they were trying to nap at 1pm,” the woman wrote online.

The mother wrote a letter and posted it through the neighbour’s door, saying she became aware of the concerns about her daughter.

“I wanted to take a moment to address it, as we certainly value being part of a respectful and considerate neighbourhood,” the mother added.

The letter received mixed reactions online.
