More than four million Nationwide customers will start receiving a £100 bonus payment from tomorrow under the building society’s Fairer Share scheme.

The payment is being made to eligible members as Nationwide shares some of its profits with customers for the fourth year running.

Since the scheme launched in 2023, Nationwide will have paid out more than £1.5billion to members once this year’s payments have been completed.

The £100 bonuses will be paid directly into eligible current accounts between June 10 and June 30.

To qualify, customers must have held an eligible current account and either savings or a mortgage with Nationwide.

Savers needed at least £100 in a Nationwide savings account or cash ISA at some point during March 2026.

Mortgage customers qualified if they owed at least £100 on a Nationwide residential mortgage.

All eligibility requirements were assessed on March 31 this year, meaning customers cannot now take action to receive this year’s bonus.

Current accounts held through Clydesdale, including Virgin Money current accounts, do not count as qualifying accounts for the 2026 payment.

Members uncertain about their eligibility status can verify their qualification through Nationwide’s website, where full terms and conditions detail the specific requirements for each account type.

Virgin Money customers who have recently become Nationwide members through the transfer process will need to wait until next year for their chance at a Fairer Share payment.

The 2027 Fairer Share payment is expected to include eligible Virgin Money customers following Nationwide’s takeover of the bank.

However, Nationwide has stressed that future payments are not guaranteed and will depend on the building society’s financial performance.

The amount paid and the eligibility rules could also change in future years.

Customers hoping to qualify for future bonuses can currently earn an extra £175 by switching their main current account to a Nationwide FlexPlus, FlexDirect or FlexAccount.

To receive the switching bonus, customers must complete a full account switch, set up at least two direct debits within 28 days, pay in £1,000 and make at least one debit card purchase within 31 days of opening the account.

Nationwide is not the only bank offering cash incentives to switch.

First Direct currently offers £200 to customers who switch to its 1st Account.

The account also gives access to a regular saver paying seven per cent interest.

NatWest is also offering £200 to customers switching to its Select, Reward or Premier accounts

NatWest is also offering £200 to customers switching to its Select, Reward or Premier accounts.

The Reward account provides additional cashback for customers who pay bills by direct debit and use the bank’s mobile app.

Santander is offering £180 to switchers who open one of its Edge accounts.

These accounts include one per cent cashback on selected household bills and supermarket spending, as well as access to a savings account paying six per cent interest on balances up to £4,000.

Each provider has specific requirements around direct debits, minimum deposits, and timeframes that customers must meet to secure their bonus.
