Meghan Markle had a “great time” while filming MasterChef Australia, a source has suggested, despite reports that she had been left “frustrated”.

The Duchess of Sussex’s guest judge appearance on the iconic TV cooking show premieres this Sunday, but there has already been a significant amount of noise surrounding it.

The programme was filmed in April during Prince Harry and Meghan’s controversial tour of Australia.

It had been suggested Meghan’s team briefed producers the word “royal” should not be used in promotional footage.

So, she was said to have been left “frustrated” when fellow judge Poh Ling Yeow had declared in the programme’s trailer: “We’ve had MasterChef royalty in the kitchen before but no one like this.”

However, sources speaking to American outlet People now contradict this, instead claiming Meghan and her fellow judges “had a great time on set together”.

“They immediately had such a great rapport and had a really fun time working with the contestants and crew as well,” the source added.

“Meghan left the set that day with such a positive experience.”

A two-minute teaser clip released by Channel 10 earlier this week showed the duchess in action as judge, where she tasked competitors with preparing a “dish fit for a duchess” from a selection of seasonal produce that Meghan herself had chosen from the pantry.

Among the ingredients laid out before contestants were honey, macadamia nuts, citrus fruits, edible flowers and celeriac.

While revealing the table of seasonal produce, Meghan also revealed Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet’s favourite vegetable.

She declared to the contestants that “my kids eat Brussels sprouts,” prompting judge Ms Yeow to respond with “that’s impressive”.

Following this, Ms Yeow and fellow judge Sofia Levin spoke to 10 News, explaining that the reaction to Meghan’s guest appearance on the show was “exactly what we wanted”.

“[The contestants] were in total shock, everyone’s jaws were on the ground,” Ms Yeow said. “In their wildest dreams, they would not have expected this, so it was very joyous for us to watch.”

Ms Levin added: “I’m not sure they did keep their composure! It was a very joyous atmosphere, very excited, lots of hairs standing on end, that sort of thing.”

Ms Yeow also detailed how Meghan was “quite clear about wanting to get to know the contestants better”, adding that the duchess had requested “some stories and food that’s going to show us their personalities”.

Meghan’s appearance on MasterChef Australia will air on Channel 10 on Sunday, July 26 at 7pm ACT (10am BST).
