Manager Marc Skinner says he has “no doubts” that he remains the best man for the job at Manchester United, despite criticism from fans.

United’s hopes of qualifying for next season’s Women’s Champions League were dealt a major blow by their goalless draw at Tottenham last weekend.

It leaves them fourth in the Women’s Super League table, two points below Arsenal, with only two games remaining.

A large proportion of United fans have questioned Skinner’s position and the tempertature of the debate around his future was raised this week as they prepare to host Brighton on Saturday (12:00 BST).

Asked if he still felt he was the right man for the job, Skinner said: “Oh, absolutely, absolutely, no doubts. You’ve seen the growth of our team.

“If you look at the job we have done, there have been highs and lows, of course there is, that is natural in any season.

“We are fully focused on getting this team to where we want it to be and we haven’t finished the job yet.

“I am wholeheartedly in it to put our team in a position we want to be in, which is where we can win titles going forward.”

Skinner said he had received assurances from the club’s decision-makers and that he is “fully aligned” with the board’s ambitions.

“Whatever people say about me, I have to focus on performances. I have always done that – I’m always honest and truthful,” he said.

“I would put myself back into that position to make sure we get this team back to winning ways. That is what I’m here to do and what I will continue to do.”
