A special evening is promised tonight for all those who love joining in with the centuries old tradition of carol singing, as the Lord Mayor’s annual Christmas Carol Concert takes place tonight from 7-8 pm at Manchester Cathedral.

Introduced by the Dean of Manchester the Very Reverend Rogers Govender MBE, the concert is free to attend and tea, coffee and mince pies will be served after the service.

An annual carol concert hosted by the Lord Mayor’s is a decades’ old Christmas tradition in the city, traditionally taking place in the magnificent Great Hall of the Manchester’s Grade 1 Listed Victorian Town Hall.

As well as joining in with much-loved Christmas carols, from ‘We Three Kings’ and  ‘Once in Royal David’s City’, to ‘Deck the Halls’, ‘Joy to the World’ and ‘Calypso Carol’, concert-goers will also be able to enjoy performances from St John Fisher and Thomas More RC Primary School choir,  New Horizons Choir, Manchester Cathedral Voluntary Choir, and Blackley Brass Band.

Lord Mayor of Manchester, Councillor Carmine Grimshaw said: “The annual Lord Mayor’s Christmas Carol Concert is a tradition that goes back decades in Manchester and is one of the highlights of the festive season for many, bringing everyone together to celebrate at this special time of year. Everyone is welcome to come along and join in with the singing and to stay behind and enjoy a mince pie and a hot drink with us afterwards.”

The carol concert is free to attend any donations received at the end of the service will go to help both the We Love MCR Charity and the Cathedral’s Volition Community.
