Police have launched an urgent investigation after a man’s body was found inside a wheelie bin in Coventry on Friday evening.

The remains were located in Cash’s Park, situated near Daimler Road in the Daimler Green area, at approximately 5pm.

The deceased, who remains unidentified, was discovered inside a Coventry City Council bin fitted with a green lid.

West Midlands Police have asked anyone who has had a bin matching that description go missing to get in touch.

Detectives are treating the death as suspicious, and officers continue to conduct enquiries at the scene today.

Investigators believe the man, thought to be between 40 and 50 years old, may have been struck by a vehicle before his body was transported to the park location.

West Midlands Police are collaborating with the local authority to determine where the green-lidded bin originated before it was moved.

The force stated it is conducting urgent enquiries to establish both the victim’s identity and the circumstances surrounding his death.

Officers said they are keeping an open mind about the investigation whilst pursuing the theory that the man was hit by a car and subsequently relocated to Cash’s Park.

Detective Chief Inspector Phil Poole, leading the investigation from West Midlands Police’s Major Crime Unit, has made a direct plea for assistance.

“I urgently want to hear from anyone who believes they may have hit someone in their car yesterday, or who has noticed a change in behaviour from someone they know who drives, or who has noticed damage to a vehicle,” he said.

“It’s vital that we trace that person as quickly as possible so that we can get their account of what happened.

“If anyone in the area has found that their wheelie bin with a green lid has been stolen, I also want to hear from them.

”Witnesses or those with dashcam or CCTV footage should call 101, quoting log 4148 of 13 March.
