A man has been charged after a 12-year-old boy was attacked in the street with a metal item, police said.

The incident took place on Stockport Road in Timperley, Trafford, at 18:30 GMT on Friday, said Greater Manchester Police.

The force said the boy had been walking down Stockport Road with two friends when a man got out of a car and chased them. Police said the boy attempted to run away but was hit with a “metal item”, leaving him with back, hip and left leg injuries.

Adithya Ramamoorthy, 21, of Vale Road in Timperley, has been charged with section 18 assault and possessing an offensive weapon in a public place. He is due to appear at Manchester and Salford Magistrates’ Court later.
