A report into how serial killer Lucy Letby was able to murder seven babies at the Countess of Chester Hospital has found that some deaths could have been prevented.

Letby is serving 15 whole-life prison terms for murdering seven babies and attempting to murder seven more.

She was convicted in 2023 and has twice been denied permission to appeal against her convictions.

Responding to the report, the hospital says it is “sorry for the events that occurred in 2015 and 2016”, and it’s a “different organisation today with new leadership, stronger governance and safety processes”. Letby maintains her innocence.

Protesters supporting Letby could be seen and heard near Liverpool Town Hall as the report was published.

correspondent Judy Moritz reports from Liverpool.
