A section of the M60 has been closed due to a police incident.

Drivers were warned to expect delays of more than 30 minutes after a stretch of the motorway was shut in both directions between Junction 17 at Prestwich and Junction 18 at Simister Island, National Highways said.

Greater Manchester Police were at the scene alongside North West Ambulance Service and fire crews, it added.

GMP said the incident was due to concern for welfare, but the woman involved is now safe and roads would re-open shortly.

Three miles (4.8km) of congestion had been reported on the approach to the closure.
