The complaints kept coming from a fifth who raged: “What is it with you Z-list celebrities, thinking everyone wants to hear your s***e political views? Plus what’s the obsession with Trump and the USA, John? Maybe be more concerned about the government here, the state this country is in.”

And another waded into the debate: “As if anyone in America would understand you — or have a f***ing clue who you are. You don’t speak for Britain or the rest of the world… These grating, virtue-signaling celebs – from A to Z – like this one, never learn the public don’t care for their opinion.”

However, despite the overwhelmingly negative reception, Mr Bishop did find a few allies who jumped to his defence following the rant.

“Well said, John. A goodly number of naysayers have come out in force, some quite rude. Hope won over hate,” one supporter hit back, while a second concurred: “Thank you for not giving up on us. It’s been a most dreary decade. Living in this country with this going on has been absolutely miserable. We’ve missed you normals.” (sic)
